FLAG CONTEMPT, CALIFORNIA-STYLE

FLAG CONTEMPT, CALIFORNIA-STYLE

June 12th, 2008

It has taken over two years to be widely disseminated but this picture has finally hit the fan.  It depicts a Mexican flag flown above an upside-down American flag flown at California’s Montebello High School image004.jpg (14.0 KB)

The principal alleges the insult to the flag was perpetrated by students from neighboring schools.

Ironically, although it was no doubt intended as a sign of disrespect–and contempt?–by the nitwit students, displaying the American flag upside-down is less an insult than a signal of distress.  The Flag Code states, “The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.” (http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html#4)

With students such as these in America it is indeed a time of dire distress for the nation.
