Another sad sign of our times. Random House has succumbed to the Islamic Threat, much like Spain caved after Muslim terrorists attacked that country: http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSN0736008820080807 .
Sherry Jones’ The Jewel of Medina, a novel about A’isha, Mohammed’s child bride (some say she was 8, some say a ripe 11, but definitely a child engaged to Mo at age 6), was pulled from distribution by Random House after everything was set for a publicity tour.
“Random House deputy publisher Thomas Perry said in a statement the company received ‘cautionary advice not only that the publication of this book might be offensive to some in the Muslim community, but also that it could incite acts of violence by a small, radical segment.‘In this instance we decided, after much deliberation, to postpone publication for the safety of the author, employees of Random House, booksellers and anyone else who would be involved in distribution and sale of the novel,’ Perry said.”
Correction: In this instance Mr. Perry and Random House surrendered their professional integrity to “a small, radical segment” of Muslims who have succeeded in repressing what the author intended as a respectful bridge between Islam and the West, aka, civilized human beings.
Mr. Perry, here’s a few clues: You don’t solve anything by being a wuss. You don’t placate enemies by surrender. And you don’t achieve self-respect, or safety, by appeasement. The world learned that lesson with World War II and Hitler.
Wake up and smell reality, Perry!
