FNC, Tea Parties, Taxes, and CNN

Okay, for the record and lest there be any doubts as to my motivations, affiliations, alienations, sublimations, etc., I hereby issue a disclaimer:  I am not now nor have I ever been a journalist nor am I a buddy of Rupert Murdoch nor do I own stock in any Murdoch enterprises, as far as I know.

That said, let’s get real about the constant bashing of FNC, the Fox News Channel, which is (not arguably) the only politically-objective network available on television.  As opposed to the former Clinton News Network, CNN, effectively now the Obama News Network and Ted Turner’s fellow travelers, FNC actually does report and lets its viewers decide.

Sure, FNC has right-of-center leanings but nowhere approaching the left-of-center commitments of CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and, as opposed to those “news” networks, FNC features a slew of leftist thinkers and commentators.  Try searching for conservatives on the other networks and you would be pushing daisies before you discover more than a handful.

Sure, Fox has the “notorious” Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Glen Beck, and Neil Cavuto but it also features lefty notables Geraldo, Juan Williams, Ellis Hennican, Eleanor Clift, Bob Beckel, Susan Estrich, Neil Gabler, Susan Estrich, Alan Colmes, until his departure, and a load of others as balancing guests and commentators.

Fox is as fair and balanced as feasible in a news world significantly, liberally, unfair and imbalanced.

Personally, as a news junkie, I try to catch the interpreted news on as many lib channels as possible, given time and interest restraints and as an effort to keep political enemies even closer than friends.  Such enemies are capable of doing much more damage to my country and should be watched very, very closely.

What brought all this to mind was the recent flap over those tea parties held on April 15th, the day governments annually and gleefully confiscate Americans’ hard earned money as Americans scramble to either scrape up the funds to pay their taxes or revel in their tax refunds.

The bigger those refunds are, the happier the recipients are.  Those generous taxpayers give nary a thought to the fact that they are being refunded monies they had loaned to various levels of government for up to a year, interest free.

The collective public wisdom of those generous citizens is that their returns represent forced savings.  The conventional governmental wisdom of those various governments is, “Ya gotta love those suckers!”

None of the above is a divergence from the topics at hand, Fox News Channel, those tea parties, and what Ralph Waldo Emerson called taxes, “the price we pay for civilization.”

Emerson wrote a century and a half ago.  If he were alive today, that eminent American philosopher most likely would have attached an addendum to his opinion to the effect, ”Wait, hold on now!  I didn’t mean to flush our taxes down sewers!”

Granted he would have phrased that change more delicately.  No doubt Ralph Waldo would also have admonished his good buddy, Henry David Thoreau, to stop the chit, forget trying to communicate with ants, and go home to a warm bed.

Ralph didn’t re-phrase and we now have exorbitant, repressive taxation–and good bud Thoreau died of pneumonia after his 2-year sojourn as a camper on Walden Pond, (which is now polluted beyond redemption.)

But FNC is once again getting a bad rap, a reflection of the ascendancy of the Fox network which now is trashing all the others with more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined in the April ratings: http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/april_ratings_fnc_beats_cnn_and_msnbc_combined_115179.asp.

So, it’s not unexpected for the libs to be ripping Fox, sort of like the, “Let’s get the big guy!” mentality and that ripping has been in progress for almost as long as FNC has been around.  Monopolies simply despise upstarts.  However, the attacks have evolved into much more than that, as evidenced by the Tea Parties coverage.

The reactions of the monopolists have become positively visceral as CNN, especially, resorts to outrageous distortions and blatant lies to blast the opposition seemingly in hopes of bringing down the news leader.

Actually it demonstrates a palpable fear that not only will the CNNers be hitting the unemployment office eventually but that so many Americans are now getting unadulterated news that the lib stranglehold on TV has been ended permanently. One of many reasons is repressive taxation and we all know how Democrats/liberals love taxes.

Let’s fess up.  No one, not even Ralph Waldo, ever likes paying taxes but what conservatives tend to like is that those taxes be used constitutionally, such as paying for the national defense, roads, etc.  We also would like the feds to read and adhere to the Tenth Amendment, that last of the Bill of Rights demanded by former colonials which reads, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Farcically and pathetically ignored for nearly eighty years,

Save These Dates!

Save These Dates!

With the holy season of Easter behind us, it’s time to mark these imminent dates and events on your calendars.

April 15:  Be sure your tax returns are postmarked by this date to insure Uncle Sam and Uncle David (in New York) don’t impose a stiff penalty for your audacity in submitting your federal and state tribute late to the state or the feds! Neither looks kindly on such procrastination. As Obama’s vetters for such positions as Secretary of the Treasury know full well, our Democratic leaders are permitted to procrastinate and even ignore the tax mandates with which we groundlings must abide but watch your butt if YOU follow suit! That is, unless you are apt to consciously, or sub-consciously, tend to chant, “Change!” In that case you still have to pay through the nose but you should be content with the change left in your pocket after you pay your dues.

April 15:  Yep, this requires some multitasking expertise since you must first cough up to the feds and maybe to your state the cash they need to administer social programs from which you derive no benefit and to reward simple servants whose hearing defects limit their ability to answer phones. Nevertheless, cast aside your tax-anger on Wednesday and get thee to a Tea Party, whether you prefer to indulge in a nice cup’a tea, a nice cup’a coffee, or a few slugs of high test Coke to get you moving in the morning. “Tea Parties” are being held throughout the nation on April 15 to protest the efforts of Obama and his tax cheats to impose on us, our children, and our grandchildren the burden of paying for their profligacy. For background on America’s first tea party, click here:  http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=949.  For local tea times, consult your local rebels and remember to BYOT, Bring Your Own Tea.

April 17:  This is another day that may soon live in infamy, if we allow it. America’s resident gay blades and their fellow travellers are intent on conducting a widespread Day of Silence in Massachusetts and other public schools on April 17th. The plan is that straight, normal, heterosexual kids will keep their mouths shut, so they cannot object, and their ears wide open, so that they will be receptive to the “gay” message. That message has two components, one, that straight kids accept them as normal and, two, that confused straight kids sign up for more information on the glories of homosexual life. See “Day of Silence–Day of Seduction,” http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=931 and call or picket your school to register your objections.

If I had a choice among not paying my taxes by April 15th or not attending a tax rebellion on that date or not protesting that effort to seduce our kids on April 17th, I’d skip my taxes, pay the penalties, skip the tea party and protest the Day Of Silence. That day and its many ramifications could affect America, and our kids, far more grievously than unfair and outrageous taxes.

A Melange: President TDB, Sexting, Oprah

These stories currently on the wires are unrelated, unless you consider that they all reflect some form of human frailty and/or idiocy.

Gimme an S, gimme a T, gimme an I, gimme an M, gimme a U, gimme an L, gimme another U, gimme an S!  S-T-I-M-U-L-U-S!  YAAA!

Hold onto your shoes!  You’re all, or most of you, are about to be stimulated!  Yee-hah!

President TDB, for Trillion Dollar Baby, made sure in all his generosity dispensing billions to banks, insurance companies, auto makers, credit card issuers, and other well-deserving recipients of his boundless largesse, that the wee people, not the leprechauns, weren’t forgotten.

Whether they voted for him or not, most working taxpayers will be receiving–good thing you’re sitting down for this news!–a grand total of about $10-$15 a week!  There are some qualifiers, of course, but legally married couples could get up to $20! (http://www.walletpop.com/taxes/article/_a/bbdp/here-comes-your-stimulus-bonus/406933?icid=main|htmlws-main|dl3|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.walletpop.com%2Ftaxes%2Farticle%2F_a%2Fbbdp%2Fhere-comes-your-stimulus-bonus%2F406933)

Before you dash out to Burger King  and blow that windfall, just be advised that everything you eat, drink, consume in any way, such as everything in BK or Mickey D’s, supermarkets, department stores, gas stations, as well as the heating oil and electricity you use, the cigs you smoke and the booze you drink, will soon reflect the price of President TDB’s war on carbon emissions.

Translation:  You will be paying more for those everythings, in some cases a lot more, but TDB will still be able to say he didn’t raise your taxes.  Those dastardly oil companies, utility companies, and everyone else are just charging more, for some inexplicable reason, probably for a greedy, insatiable, capitalistic reason.

In any event, it’s all former president Bush’s fault.  If you haven’t already noticed, that’s the mantra for the TDB regime and will be for the next four years.  Even Bush’s tax cuts will be the cause of all working people paying more in taxes.

How’s that?  Pay attention, now!

When the much-reviled President GWB’s tax cuts are allowed to expire in 2010, American workers will be paying even more money to the government, through the nose or through some other body aperture.  But, again, TDB won’t be raising your taxes.  He and his Democratic congressional cohorts will just not be renewing Bush’s tax cuts.  See why Bush is responsible, now?  If he had pushed for no sunset on his cuts or a twenty year window you would still have them next year and beyond to 2020.

Suggestion:  Hold off on Burger King and instead use coupons and skip the temptation to superzize.  Bank that ten or twenty dollar weekly gift from Obama.  You’ll need it to pay your future taxes.  Better still, since your bank may go belly-up, stuff it under a mattress.  At least then it will afford you some, temporary, cushioning.

Any Obama voters ready to repent?  If not, just remember he’s only been in office for 70 days.  Imagine the havoc he will wreak over the rest of his term!

Oh, yeah.  If you’re among the 38% of Americans who don’t pay any federal income taxes anyway or if you don’t bother to work at all, no worries, you’re immune from the hikes in payroll taxes.  You will be coughing up more for everything else but take solace in the fact they’re not direct taxes.  Indirect taxes are easier on the wallet, right?

Sexting and Parenting, Or How Dumb Parents Don’t Teach Their Children Well:  On different but no less disturbing news, some teenies are fighting back over their constitutional and God-given right to be junior amateur porn stars by disseminating child pornography without being charged with disseminating child pornography.

The topic of “sexting” by teenies, the super fun extra-curricular and co-curricular activity of posting pictures of themselves partially clad or in their birthday suits by cell phone has been the subject of recent articles here, notably, “Teen Sexting, Texting, and Suicide,” http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=924.  There are always little quirks that distinguish the stories, however.

For example, a federal judge in a Pennsylvania case, “temporarily blocked a prosecutor from filing child pornography charges against three northeastern Pennsylvania teenagers who appeared in racy photos that turned up on classmates’ cell phones:” http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1202429560474.

Where they did expect the photos to turn up is unclear.

Three of the 20 accused kids refused a plea deal from the prosecutor.  He guaranteed they wouldn’t be prosecuted if they accepted a very reasonable offer: “If they took a class on sexual harassment, sexual violence and gender roles. Seventeen of the students accepted the offer, but three balked and sued” the prosecutor and a federal judge upheld their complaint.

What’s most curious about that particular example in this pandemic of teens willing to strut their stuff via cell phones and the internet is that 15% of their parents had to have approved of such activities, at least retrospectively.  Fourteen and fifteen year old girls . . .
