Dems must think the Enquirer’s stories about Always-the-Bridesmaid John Edwards and his shenanigans may have some credibility:  http://www.mcclatchydc.com/227/story/46637.html.  He may not get to speak at the Dem convention unless he clears up the mess.  Can anyone say DNA test?

Record chill in Maui (64 degrees–Hey!  It’s Hawaii!) puts a damper on “Global Warming:”  http://www.mauinews.com/page/content.detail/id/506834.html?nav=10.  Algore will no doubt say the cooling is a direct result of the warming due to the influence of the global framistat on the planet’s thingamajig.

Speaker Pelosi’s book isn’t selling much better than mine:  http://drudgereport.com/flashnpb.htm.  Then again she is too busy trying to save the planet to promote her book whereas I am only trying to save the United States.

Mist, the Chinese word for filthy air, is back in Beijing, as if it ever left: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080807/ap_on_sp_ol/oly_china_pollution.  A new Olympic sport could be synchronized breathing!

Former President Bubba blames the economy for “unhealthy eating:”  http://www.nwaonline.net/articles/2008/08/06/news/080708lrclintonfood.txt.  Smile when you say that, Bubba, and move away from that Big Mac and supersized fries!

DIVERSITY UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

I’ve witnessed the effects of diversity up very close and very personal. I’ve been there and seen that.  It’s not a pretty picture.

I grew up in an expansive, four room, one bath luxury tenement in the South Bronx in the 1950’s, in a neighborhood adjacent to the future Fort Apache and peopled by the working class of Irish, Italian, German, and Polish extraction, and representatives of a number of other, chiefly European, nations.

We all got along pretty well. There were gangs, of sorts, but not of the West Side Story variety. Most of us were Catholics, with a smattering of Protestants, and some Jews, who tended to keep to themselves, and almost all of us were Caucasians. Most dads worked, most moms stayed at home, without what today is sometimes considered a stigma, that is, being classified as a stay-at-home mom. We were diverse, at least as far as national background was concerned.

We lived in our own little enclave for the most part, occasionally venturing out to challenge another neighborhood group to a stickball or softball game.  We rarely had space for a real baseball game, though Yankee Stadium was within spitting distance. When we could scrape together the fifty cents for general admission, we’d go and cheer on Mickey and Yogi and Whitey and try to sneak down into the good seats.

As an aunt was wont to say, we didn’t have a pot to pee in but there was no class envy, no riots, no gang warfare—except once when some Black kids intruded on “our territory” and we mobilized to defend our turf. I have to admit, I was once armed with a zip gun which scared the bejesus out of me and which, fortunately, I never used. But we were happily diverse in our fashion, and peaceful and relatively content with what little we had and not envious of those who had much more.  You could say it was a microcosm of the time. That peace and contentment, now seen as a hallmark of America in the 1950s, came to a swift close after the invasion of foreigners. I still recall their first arrival, from Puerto Rico, sometime in the early years of that decade.  Technically, they weren’t foreigners at all since Puerto Rico was an American territory, but they were foreign to us—in their language and their mode of living, and in their attitudes and lifestyles.

My particular neighborhood hadn’t yet entered “decline,” a polite term for slipping into a slum, as was the southern mile or so of the South Bronx but that status changed almost overnight. I still recall one hot summer day when that decline began. My dad was sitting in the kitchen reading the Daily News or the Mirror and smoking a Camel or a Lucky Strike when something whizzed past the window from the floor above.  We looked down in the alley and saw that the missile with a downward trajectory was actually a bag of garbage which had unceremoniously been tossed into the alleyway, narrowly missing a family of alley cats who fell on the bag as if it were manna from the fourth floor.

Then ensued the inevitable interpersonal conflicts when vastly different cultures collide.

Our decline had begun in earnest and soon turned into an avalanche–of garbage–as tens of thousands of Puerto Ricans migrated north to New York and the South Bronx.

LATEST NEWS FROM BIMBO-LAND

In case you missed them:

A.  McCain’s video featuring Paris, Britney, and Obama: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/30/mccain-ad-links-paris-hil_n_115841.html

B.  Kathy Hilton’s Objections to A:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kathy-hilton/mccains-celebrity-ad-friv_b_116593.html

C.  Paris Strikes Back Video:  http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0808/Paris_Hilton_responds_Really.html

D.  Sadly, no feedback from Britney or her mom.

Let’s see if I have this straight.  McCain’s camp puts out a video comparing Obama to a “rock star,” which features cameos of Paris and Brit, who certainly make it more attractive.  Paris’ mommy takes offense at the frivolous waste of money showing her daughter in a video.  Paris retaliates by putting out her own video ridiculing McCain’s age.  Britney says nada.

Questions:

A.  Isn’t Barack a rock star or at least a rock star wannabe so what’s wrong with putting out that video?

B.  Does billionaire Obama-backer Kathy never waste any money and why didn’t she take offense at Paris’ other video, you know, the one showing her baby really and graphically demonstrating the art of, umm, putting out?

C.   May we anticipate more videos from Paris with most of her clothes on in support of Obama?

HOMOSEXUALS AND DR. PAUL CAMERON

The following are a few comments posted about my series on homosexuality in America. Since he was maligned so, I took the opportunity to contact Dr. Cameron and his rebuttal can be read on my website, http//genelalor.com.  [MY COMMENTS ON THE COMMENTS ARE IN BRACKETS.]

Wow, what good references you have!  [SARCASM?]

The source for the Family Research Council’s pamphlet is Dr Paul Cameron.

He either resigned , or was expelled (depending upon who you believe) from the American Psychological Association in 1983 over ethics issues - making stuff up, falsifying data.  [LIES, DAMNED LIES, AND PHONY STATS]

In 1984 the Nebraska Psychological Association issued a statement disassociating itself “from the representations and interpretations of scientific literature offered by Dr. Paul Cameron”.

In 1986 the American Sociological Association, following a report from its Committee on the Status of Homosexuals in Sociology, passed a resolution condemning Dr. Cameron for “consistent misrepresentation of sociological research”.

In 1996, the Board of Directors of the Canadian Psychological Association approved a position statement disassociating the organisation from Cameron’s work on sexuality, stating that he had “consistently misinterpreted and misrepresented research on sexuality, homosexuality, and lesbianism”

Anything Dr Cameron says requires cross-checking with other sources.

[Zoe, Zoe, Zoe!

Do see my previous articles and DO try not to wallow in fibs and innuendo!

Cameron was not expelled from the APA. As for the criticisms by other organizations, we all know–or should know–that they too have their own agendas, just as the American Psychiatric Association had when it caved to pressures from the gay lobby to change its diagnosis of homosexuality as being deranged.

And, in the interests of fairness and objectivity, please advise if you are gay.]

Paul Cameron’s research has long been rebutted, disproven, debunked, pick your word. Just logically speaking, much of his statistics make no sense, whether or not he has been blasted by his peers–which he has.

Feel free to use Cameron’s statistics among your Freeper audience, [JAMIE DOESN’T SEEM TO BE A BIG FAN OF NEWREPUBLIC.COM] but don’t be surprised to be utterly ignored in a more mainstream arena. Cameron’s “science” is worthless.

One source (there are many others):

And yep, I’m gay.

Jamie, you seem all in a lather!

Unfortunately for gays and for society, Cameron’s stats make a great deal of sense.

As for his “peers” and the mainstream arena/media, their objectivity has long been in disrepute, especially in the case of the author of that UCDavis piece. One cannot expect objectivity in a discussion over the
homosexual “lifestyle” from a guy who has spent most of his adult life defending it, now can one?

I did seek out Dr. Cameron for his take on the matter and he graciously provided the following links for your perusal:
http://www.familyresearchinst.org and
http://www.ejssb.org.

If you are really interested in the truth on this matter, I suggest you review them, as well as his website. However, I think we all know you won’t.

Good luck!]

Jamie in Las Vegas said, in August 5th, 2008 at 12:57 am

Nope, not in a lather. A little frustrated, perhaps. Mostly because I know that the views of Cameron–and thus those who put their trust in his findings–are wrong. But I can’t do anything about it, because any source I give you, you will dismiss as readily as you assume I will of the ones you provided me.

There is an impasse here that is unlikely to be breached, least of all by me, a guy with a little-noticed blog. I’ve commented just a couple of times here, with only one aim.

That is to tell you and your readers that the things here at your site on homosexuality (and on sites like Free Republic) seem so far off base to a gay person like me. The assumptions made about gay people are unlike anything that actually exists in my life, or the lives of any gay people I know.

It is impossible to take your views seriously when I know for a fact that much of what is said is false. Unfortunately whenever I try to point that out, I’m accused of lying, subterfuge or lack of intelligence. I’d just like people to consider that–not being gay themselves–they just MIGHT have some preconceived notions that aren’t true.

I don’t need to research what being gay is all about. I AM gay. And I know that my life is not reflected by Cameron’s outrageous studies, nor by most of what I’ve read here.

PROFESSOR P.Z. MYERS, PROFESSED ATHEIST AND OUTED BIGOT

As it is said about fools, it is one thing to be thought an atheist and quite another to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

University of Minnesota Morris prof, P.Z. Myers, is absolutely entitled to be an atheist.  Likewise, he’s entitled to worship rocks and to howl at the moon.

However, when he bragged ”that he had pierced the ‘cracker’ [a stolen Roman Catholic communion host] with a rusty nail and simply threw it in the trash together with old coffeegrounds and a banana peel,” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PZ_Myers#Eucharist_controversy, P.Z. outed himself for what he is, viz, another Ward Churchill, or worse.

Yet another professor gets his 15 minutes of ill-gotten fame.

IVC--IRAQ VETERANS FOR CONGRESS

IVC: IRAQ VETERANS FOR CONGRESS

The IVC, Iraq Veterans for Congress, http://iraqvetsforcongress.com/, is an organization formed in 2008 for the express purpose of  giving a voice to those who served their country on the battlefield and who now wished to serve it in our government.

This “squad sized” detail is not composed of the usual egocentric politician-types.  Rather, it is peopled by seasoned patriots who have not only served but who have seen the enemy and, contrary to Pogo, who know the enemy isn’t us.

According to IVC founder, Kieran Lalor,  “IVC is more than a group of Republican candidates who served in Iraq, and we are here for something other than our respective Congressional races.  We want to be a voice for thousands of U.S. military veterans, their families, and hardworking patriotic Americans who are tired of seeing veterans mistreated and their mission slandered.  . . . I wanted America to have a reliable, unified voice from twelve [now seventeen] candidates who are uniquely positioned to offer  a knowledgeable, credible rebuttal to the Democrats, the mainstream media, and the constant message of defeatism and mistreatment of our troops.”

Military service in and of itself does not qualify anyone for elective office.  What it does do is demand some attention from the American public as partial payment for that service and for the dangers and risks to which these patriots and their families were exposed on our behalf.

If you wish, you may render that payment by visiting Lalor’s website, http://kml2008.com/home.htm, considering his positions, and perhaps contributing to his campaign and to other IVC candidates.  Unfortunately, money is the prime mover in elections and his opponent is supported by many Hollywood celebs, MoveOn.org, and the power of incumbency.

Isn’t it time America paid its debt to these summer and winter soldiers?

HOMOSEXUALS VIOLENCE IN AMERICA

In days of old when knights were bold/ And “gay” was not invented,/ They went along their hidden way/ And seemed to be contented.

That bit of doggerel is simplistic, of course, but it did seem that forty years ago homosexuals seemed happier in the closet.  That may not have been altogether true but prior to co-opting and misusing the word “gay,” they definitely seemed gayer than they seem today.

Perhaps gays were seething underneath, and it’s true that some may have been bullied and ridiculed, but they didn’t seem violent before the mass outings that began with the Stonewall riots in 1969.  (See Parts One to Five of this continuing series.)  That’s all changed today, ironically, as they push for acceptance and assimilation into general society and as they succeed more and more in that quest.  Perhaps, too, since we unfortunately live in a violent world, they feel violence is the path to travel and they have moved on down that road.

(Another disclaimer is in order here.  In no way do I imply that every homosexual is violent any more than I suggest all violence is gay-inspired, although it has mushroomed of late.)

Paul Cameron, Ph.D., of the Family Research Institute documents the violent behaviors that have occurred in the last few decades in his article, “Homosexuals and Violence,”   http://www.familyresearchinst.org/FRI_EduPamphlet4.html, and on his website.  Squeamish readers should be cautioned that what Cameron reports  is graphic and unsettling.  (Oddly, it has also been accorded little media attention.)

Incidents he relates include the case of two teen lesbians murdering a 12 year old girl, statistics on male serial killers, ...

CONGRATS RUSH LIMBAUGH--AMERICA'S CONSERVATIVE BULWARK!

Love him or loathe him, defend him or despise him, one thing no one can ever do is dismiss Rush Limbaugh.

Today, August 1st, 2008, a month after signing a new, eight year $400 million contract, marks his 20th anniversary as a nationally syndicated talk radio host, a truly unique accomplishment.  Of course, mere longevity in that field in and of itself does not confer greatness–though it, too, is remarkable.  Limbaugh’s greatness lies in the influence he has had on American conservatism.

It’s long been a given that our national media is liberal-infested to the point that news in that media can no longer be described as journalism; indoctrination and brainwashing are far more fitting.  For 20 years now, Limbaugh has provided the voice that conservatism lacked for so many years, an alternative which we lacked until 1988.

In the process, he paved the way for many others who, for the most part, pale in comparison but he did make their voices possible, he did enable them.  He is oft imitated but never even close to duplicated.

Unlike many of his ditto-head followers, I see him as a flawed human being,  just as we all are.  His personal life, his four divorces, and apparent greed,  (see previous article on Limbaugh),  do not detract from his outstanding achievements and contributions to this nation.

Today, as Democrats attempt to reinstate the so-called Fairness Doctrine, a misnomer if there ever was one, Rush stands as the primary reason why that doctrine should never be reenacted.  Should they succeed, America will once again be thrust back into the Dark Ages of liberal propaganda without the recourse of conservative rebuttal.  (See “Why the Fairness Doctrine Is Anything But Fair” –http://www.heritage.org/Research/Regulation/EM368.cfm)

While you’re at it, visit Limbaugh’s website, http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/today.guest.html, where you can judge for yourself whether we need him, not just for another 8 years, but for at least 20!

May God bless you, Rush.  Keep that one-half of your brain tied behind your back until you really need it and never forget what you always say, that your talent is on loan from God-d!

HOMOSEXUALITY IN AMERICA: PART FOUR-- WHAT DO GAYS WANT?

HOMOSEXUALITY IN AMERICA: PART FOUR WHAT DO GAYS WANT?

Sigmund Freud famously asked the question, obviously in frustration, “What do women want?”  He never did answer his own question and I would suggest that most women would respond with either, “You have to ask?” or, “It’s none of your business!” or, “We want you to stop asking stupid questions, that’s what!”  Personally, I wouldn’t dare to even ask.

Making an educated guess in answer to the question, “What do gays want?” I would say, first and foremost, to be accepted.  Whether that response involves acceptance as normal, or as a variation on the norm, or simply as people I wouldn’t venture to say but that isn’t really relevant since gays, homosexuals, lesbians have been well on their way to societal acceptance at all levels for some three decades now.  Whether that’s a good thing or not is another question.  I’ll save my answer to that for another day.

Today’s topic demands an understanding of how gays got to this point in the first place.

Over half a century ago, Karen Hooker conducted a study on biological determinism which many believe led to “normalizing” homosexuality (http://mybitchingarea.blogspot.com/2006/09/nature-vs-nature.html), which isn’t quite true.  In fact, the American Psychiatric Association, the APA, continued, for sixteen years after being aware of the Hooker study, to classify homosexuals as sexual deviants in its DSM, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.  It took until 1973 before the APA changed its diagnosis and expunged homosexuality as an abnormal mental disorder (Section 302 in the DSM II).

What happened in those intervening sixteen years to cause this re-evaluation?  In 3 words: agitation and  intimidation by the gay community and pusillanimity on the part of the APA.  (For details, see http://www.traditionalvalues.org/urban/eleven.php.)
